Auno Siikaluoma, grandmaster, GM !

Heikki Arppi, the Tournament Director of the Finnish Correspondence Chess Federation, writes…

Auno Siikaluoma (Järvenpää) is the newest Finnish grandmaster in correspondence chess. He reached second and the decisive norm on August 25, 2012 in the group WS/GMN/28. Siikaluoma plays his remote games on the ICCF server. He has also won the Finnish Championship, as well as the internationally valuable First Webchess tournament. In addition, he won bronze at the Seniors’ First World Cup.

The first norm to today’s extremely difficult grandmaster’s value came from the Russian Federation celebratory event that ended last year RCCA Gold 2008.  Siikaluoma was in the final results second with scores 11,5 /16. He reached second and the decisive norm on August 25, 2012 in the group WS/GMN/28. Now his victory and final result was 8,5 /12. Both norms exceeded the target score by half a point, so Siikaluoma left nothing to chance.

He gets his title at the next World Congress of ICCF at the end of 2012 in South Africa.

We congratulate the new Grandmaster!
